Ather Energy and DPIIT Partner Under ‘Build in Bharat’ to Accelerate India’s EV Innovation
India’s electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem is set to grow rapidly as the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) signs a significant MoU with Ather Energy under the ‘Build in Bharat’ initiative. This collaboration focuses on boosting domestic EV manufacturing, encouraging deep-tech hardware innovation, and developing a skilled workforce for India’s clean mobility sector.
Key initiatives include mentorship for hardware-based EV startups, supply chain development, and a Bharat Startup Grand Challenge to fast-track innovations in battery tech and EV components. DPIIT and Ather will also conduct training programs and provide field exposure to develop India’s future EV talent pool.
Ather Energy, a leading player in the two-wheeler EV space, currently operates India’s largest fast-charging network with 3,611 chargers (3,578 in India), offers eight scooter variants, and boasts a robust intellectual property portfolio with over 300 trademarks and 47 patents.
Officials from both DPIIT and Ather emphasize the importance of industry-government collaboration to make India a global leader in EV manufacturing. This partnership supports the larger goals of ‘Make in India’ and ‘Green Mobility’, positioning India for greater industrial self-reliance and technological leadership in the global EV market.
