Tripura to Set Up 45 EV Charging Stations, Boost Renewable Energy Focus
The Tripura government’s power department has announced plans to install 45 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across the state to promote clean mobility. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to modernise the state’s power infrastructure and encourage the use of renewable energy.

To ensure uninterrupted electricity supply during the upcoming Durga Puja, the department is also accelerating work on all pending sub-station projects. One major milestone was the inauguration of the 33 kV Durga Chowmuhani Sub-station under the North Eastern Region (NER) Power System Improvement Project. This ₹9.76 crore project will benefit 10,945 consumers by improving power distribution reliability.

Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath highlighted that Tripura’s gas reserves are limited and gradually depleting, making it essential to diversify the state’s energy sources. He stressed the importance of shifting towards solar and wind power, which are abundant and sustainable, to boost both power generation and state revenue.

The EV charging network, combined with renewable energy adoption, is expected to reduce carbon emissions, support electric mobility, and position Tripura as a cleaner, greener state in the Northeast. These steps reflect the government’s commitment to long-term energy sustainability and modern infrastructure.
