iGo Partners with Sun Electro Devices to Launch 2.5-Wheeler Smart EVs
iGo, an emerging EV mobility innovator, has teamed up with Pune-based manufacturing veteran Sun Electro Devices to accelerate production of its unique 2.5-wheeler smart EVs. Moving away from the traditional giga-factory model, iGo is adopting an agile, ecosystem-driven approach by leveraging India’s established manufacturing strengths.

Unlike previous EV industry trends driven by vertical integration and schemes like the PLI, iGo aims to combine its deep tech innovation with Sun Electro Devices’ decades of manufacturing expertise. Located in Chakan, Pune, Sun Electro Devices brings a seasoned team, robust supplier network, and a track record in delivering high-precision automotive components.

CEO Sravan Appana highlighted that building hardware is challenging—especially certification and scaling production—and this partnership solves the “last mile” problem many startups face. iGo plans to scale to 1,000 vehicles per month within seven months, launching initially in Pune, Panjim, and Mumbai.

The 2.5-wheeler platform introduces innovative features such as anti-topple stabilization, on-demand self-balancing, and a triple-disc CBS system, creating a new category between scooters and e-rickshaw carts. This partnership not only speeds production but also signals a shift in EV manufacturing philosophy—collaborating with India’s manufacturing ecosystem rather than competing against it.
