Mahindra to Export EVs to UK Under New Trade Agreement
Mumbai-based Mahindra & Mahindra is set to export its electric vehicles (EVs) to the United Kingdom, capitalizing on the opportunities created by the newly finalized India-UK free trade agreement (FTA). According to Group CEO and Managing Director Anish Shah, this move aligns with the company’s long-term vision of expanding its EV footprint globally.
Mahindra, a prominent player in India’s domestic EV market, aims for electric vehicles to make up 30% of its total sales by 2030. This target reflects the growing demand for clean mobility solutions and the company’s strategic focus on electrification. The export plan will also leverage the capabilities of the Mahindra Advanced Design Europe (M.A.D.E) facility, inaugurated in 2022 in Banbury, Oxfordshire. The facility plays a key role as the design and conceptual hub for Mahindra’s EV portfolio, ensuring that products meet international market preferences and standards.
The FTA is expected to reduce trade barriers, making it easier and more cost-effective for Mahindra to enter the UK market. This marks a significant step in Mahindra’s ambition to become a global EV player while supporting India’s position in the international electric mobility landscape.
