Electric 3-Wheelers Dominate Indian Market with Record 62% Share in July 2025
India's electric three-wheeler (e-3W) sector continues its meteoric rise, achieving a record-breaking 62% market share in July 2025 with 69,145 units sold. This marks a 9% year-on-year (YoY) growth, highlighting a decisive shift away from internal combustion engine (ICE) models. In contrast, CNG 3-wheelers suffered a 13% YoY decline, now holding just 24% of the market with 27,011 units sold. Diesel and LPG models saw minimal movement, while petrol variants nearly vanished with only 423 units sold—a 52% drop.

Key factors behind the e-3W surge include lower operating costs, ongoing support from FAME II and state subsidies, and rising demand from urban last-mile delivery, ride-hailing services, and gig economy workers. Additionally, volatile CNG prices have further tilted fleet economics in favor of EVs.

Between January and July 2025, India recorded 430,846 e-3W sales, placing it on track to surpass the 700,000-unit mark this calendar year—well above the 691,301 units sold in 2024.

The road ahead suggests further growth driven by increased fleet electrification, deeper rural penetration, and new feature-rich EV launches. With petrol and diesel models on the decline, e-3Ws are no longer an emerging trend—they’re the dominant force shaping India’s commercial mobility landscape.
