PM Modi Announces India’s Plan to Export EVs to 100 Countries

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has declared that India is preparing to export electric vehicles (EVs) to over 100 countries, calling it a “new success story” for the nation’s automotive sector. Speaking at the ET World Leaders Forum 2025, the Prime Minister announced that a special program will be launched on August 6, 2025 to turn this ambitious goal into reality.

This marks the first time a clear number has been attached to India’s EV export target. Modi linked this announcement to the country’s broader progress in manufacturing and research, noting that India’s auto exports have more than doubled from ₹50,000 crore in 2014 to ₹1.2 lakh crore today. Beyond cars and two-wheelers, India now exports metro coaches, rail coaches, and locomotives, with EVs set to become the next big leap.

Modi emphasized the importance of home-grown innovation over imported research, highlighting that India’s long-term success will depend on its own R&D capabilities. He also pointed to wider economic achievements: record job creation, high foreign exchange reserves, and the solar industry’s growth from 2.5 GW in 2014 to 100 GW at present.

The EV export push aims not just to expand trade but also to position India as a global hub for clean mobility.
