Mercedes-Benz Redesigns Iconic Grille for New Electric GLC and Future Models
Mercedes-Benz is revamping its design approach for its next generation of electric vehicles, starting with the upcoming GLC with EQ Technology. Recognizing that its current egg-shaped EVs haven't performed well in sales, the company is going for a fresh start, including a striking redesign of its iconic grille. Inspired by classic models like the 600 Pullman and S-Class, the new grille features a wide chrome frame, a smoked-glass lattice, and contour lighting. A premium version will also offer 942 animated backlit dots, along with an illuminated central star.
The automaker calls this new design language “Sensual Purity” and sees it as a bold step toward the future. According to Mercedes-Benz Chief Design Officer Gorden Wagener, the grille “redefines the face of our brand.” The refreshed design will appear on more models, including combustion-engine vehicles. The redesigned GLC will make its debut at the IAA Mobility show in Munich on September 7, 2025.
